Art / Soul
Title: “Mystic"
Audio Description:
This is a vertical, close-up painting of a mermaid that fills most of the canvas. Her skin is painted in layered shades of deep blue and teal. Her tail curves through the painting in warm gold tones, with textured, scale-like details.
She wears gold seashells on her chest, and small white pearls swirl around her body, moving through the composition like flowing water.
Her face is calm, with pale, almost glowing eyes. From the center of her forehead, white swirling lines extend outward from her third eye area.
The background is made up of fluid blues with touches of gold. The overall color palette is blues, golds, and soft whites, and the painting has a mystical, underwater atmosphere.
Art / Soul
When I focus on my passion, my purpose becomes clear.
This month, I want to share with you the origins of my art journey, and where the name “Art & Soul” came from
The name Art & Soul is a play on the words “heart and soul“ because I create my art with my heart and soul. Throughout my life, art has been a huge part of it, but despite that I never gave myself a full permission to dive on in because of my ongoing vision issues.
It wasn't until I lost more of my eyesight at age 27 after progressive vision loss throughout my early 20s that I realized that art was my true passion in life. The thing that led me to that realization was when I lost that ability to create visual art, I felt like I simultaneously lost my purpose, and that's what led me to the realization that it is my purpose in this life to nurture my passion of creating art as a partially blind artist, to lead by example and show others that no matter what cards you have been dealt in life, you can also connect to your passion and in turn, connect to your purpose.
So I invite you to ask yourself, what is that thing for you? What is that thing that if you woke up tomorrow and you weren't able to do it anymore, you would also feel like you had your chance at living your purpose taken away? It doesn't have to be the job you go to every day or who you are to other people. Your purpose lies in the feeling of joy that resonates within you when you connect to it. Whatever that thing for you is, I want you to do whatever you can to devote more of your life to that thing. Because at the end of the day, I think purpose is more related to simply just connecting to yourself and what brings you joy and thus you find your purpose.
